New air cargo facility to increase handling capacity to 5.4 million tonnes yearly

Changi East Industrial Zone (CEIZ), a new airfreight infrastructure is planned to double the city state’s cargo handling capacity by 2.4 million tonnes every year.

The project come at the right time as Singapore handled 2.12 million tonnes of air cargo last year, the first time crossing 2 million tonnes benchmark.

As part of the transformation, the strong growth in handling capacity is advantageous with deploying of technologies and automation.

Currently, pharmaceutical, e-commerce and food industry are the main demand for air cargo services. Notably, e-commerce in South-East-Asia has a projected growth of 1600% in 6 years time.

First phase of the mega project is expected to be in force by year 2030, merging operation with Changi Airfreight Centre.
